You have to start small but stable to everything. Now that you are going to begin to use the social media, try to understand it first. After that, take a look at what you need to use the social media efficiently, fast and secure. I’m sure that you don’t read this blog to stay planted where you are. Don’t just take a look. Begin to start loving social media and give your first kiss :).

What Is Social Media?

I think we could describe social media like an ocean. Like diverse colonies who live in the same system but have different areas of usage. Social medias area of usage variates from sharing photos to play games together… That’s why social media can mean something else for each user. But social media is generally a type of communication who constitutes on the content created by the users, whos based on sharing and participation without any time or space limitation.

5 Things You Need First

1. Be Open To Innovations And Communication

As you have read this article, you want to start something new and you are open-minded. You want to make a new start to use the internet more effectively, innovations are welcome for you. Nice, but this ist not sufficient. The internet isn’t changeless. The technology improves continually and the competition between internet services is really excessive. So you can meet new services and methods you may use anyday. That’s why being obsessive and stubborn is not for you. You won’t be able to cross any wall without crossing your own first.

What is Web 2.0?

Most of the first websites were composed of static pages and enabled only oneway communication. We call Web 2.0, the new version of the web which is built with the content created by the users, which can be customized and looks more modern.

Social media is not like the banner for your new product that you put on the top of your website. Forget the oneway communication. Social media is talking and discussing. Good and bad comments, wishes and new ideas are from now on with you. You should respond to them by evaluating. But if you only talk about yourself, people will stop listening to you after a while. So you must make a contribution and be valuable to your milieu. You can do for the users what they do for you. In fact, it will be better for you to take the first step.

2. E-mail Address

To sign up for the web services on the social media, you need an e-mail address first.I guess you already have one as you are actually reading this blog online. But your e-mail traffic will significantly increase when you become an active social media user. Notifications, informations about your account, warnings and messages coming from people you met through social media will occupy you. Sure there can also be very important e-mails who have to be answered immediatly among those. So you need a secure e-mail address you can use easily.

Gmail

Let me introduce you to your most loyal friend on social media. Before a long time God created human beings and the founders of Google created Gmail. He has disconforted Yahoo and Hotmail though he has joined the marathon very lately. Naturally, this is not a coincidence. Gmail is the safiest e-mail service for you with all his useful features. And it is free :). You can easily use it for your personal and institutional e-mail needs with its storage capacity of 7380 MB.

There are so many reasons for you to choose Gmail. The most important reason is that it’s very handy. You can automatically group your e-mails thanks to the tags, so you won’t loose your point. I guess we agree that Google is the best search engine. I have great news!. You won’t get lost between thousands of e-mail thanks to the search feature at Gmail.

What if I tell you that you can reach your e-mail and contact list from anywhere? Gmail supports all of the desktop e-mail clients. Naturally you can also use them on your mobile phone and thanks to Google Sync you can use your contact list at Gmail synchronised with your mobile phone. You can spare time by integrating your other e-mail adresses with Gmail.

You can also use Gmail for your institutional e-mail hosting needs by registering your own domain name on Google Apps.

Visit yardım sayfalarını to learn about those features and how to use them.

3. Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla Firefox

You’ll spend hours on websties for this. So the speed, security and usability of your browser is very important for you. Quit whatever you are using to surf on the internet. Mozilla Firefox is the best, fastest and most secure internet browser. Trust in my choice and the choice of hundred millions of users. None of us is obsessive, trust me :). You don’t have to be a fan to love it. If you want something better like everybody, I have some sentences that could convince you.

Mozilla Firefox is safe because it’s an open source coded software. So the codes are open to everyone. So everybody, including the aliens can examine the codes and modify them. So there are thousands of people who could notice an error and offer a new idea. As the Mozilla Developpers are very strong and dynamic, they can produce the safiest internet browser for us.

Do you watch the Pimp My Ride programm on MTV? Thanks to the 6000 and more annexes in his library, you can customize Mozilla Firefox following your needs more than those cars on that TV show. With those annexes, you can use the social media services easier and faster. Don’t get confused, if you don’t know where to start, take a look at this.

4. Antivirus Software

Unfortunately, our computers are not safe enough by themselves. You need an antivirus software even if you are using your computer only for playing games. While using social media, you’ll write your personal info (usernames, passwords, credit card informations etc. ) several times. Naturally you don’t want those informations to get into the hands of someone else because of a simple virus.

%100 security isn’t possible neither in real life neither on the internet. But there are some things to do for not being the victim of online serial killers. Get immediately an antivirus software. You could spend hundreds of dollars for this but I can assure you considering my personal experiences that it won’t be worth it. There are many good and free softwares to use. My advice would be Avira Antivir.Give it a try;).

5. Passpack

You’re going to sign up at many places while using social media. Your passwords should be more than just your date of birth. For your own security, your passwords should be composed of meaningless letters and numbers. And of course, every password should be different. Yes, things are going to get complicated. Don’t get your memory occupied with your passwords. I’m sure there are many things you should remember like your mothers date of birth or the recipe of that meal you love so much :). And how are you going to remember all this?

Passpack

I’m sure you’d prefer remembering two passwords than several difficult passwords. Passpack is a web service helping you to register your passwords. You can enter the usernames, passwords, web addresses and other important informations. You can easily reach them with the searching and tagging features.

Most of all, it is really safe. It has a two phased sign up system. Even if somebody gets your sign in information, he won’t ever reache your registered informations without the main password which is called ‘Packing key’. To open and see the passwords, the ‘packing key’ should be entered. All passwords including the ‘Packing key’ are preserved in a crypted state at Passpack. So, even the system administrators could get to your passwords. So shines the sun after the password nightmare and Passpack smiles at you :).
